At STARS Dorset, we offer specialist support for children and young people (CYP) across Dorset who have experienced sexual violence. Our dedicated services include Counselling and an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) service, providing a safe space for young survivors to heal and rebuild their confidence.
Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service
Our Children and Young People ISVAs offer impartial guidance to young people, their families, and carers, helping them understand their options. These specialist advisors can:
Liaise with schools and other agencies on the young person’s behalf
Accompany them to important appointments and meetings
Provide emotional support to help them process their experience
Empower them to regain confidence and move forward on their recovery journey
Counselling Service
Our Children & Young People Counselling Service offers a safe, confidential space for children aged 8 and above to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Our trained counsellors provide age-appropriate support to help young people:
Understand and express their emotions
Develop coping strategies for overwhelming thoughts
Work through the impact of their trauma in a safe and supportive environment
Confidentiality & Safeguarding
We respect the privacy of every young person who seeks our support. However, if a counsellor or ISVA believes a child is at risk of serious harm or abuse, we have a duty to share this information with the relevant agencies, following the ‘Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership’ and ‘BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership Policies and Procedures’.
