Trauma Teddies

Our Trauma Teddy Project started out as an idea and a news piece written by our CEO for the Poundbury Gazette.  The article talked about our work with children and asked for people to create for us some bears that we could hand out to every child and adult that comes through our doors at STARS Dorset

The bears are called ‘Trauma Teddies’ and across the UK they are used by the Police, the Fire Service and in hospitals to give to children who have experienced a trauma.

When the article went out we expected a few teddies to come in, but we have been overwhelmed by the support and kindness of the public all across the UK.  Daily, we are still receiving packages and personal deliveries of beautiful hand made bears.  They have arrived from Newcastle, London and Penzance!

Our CEO says, “It’s just something that makes that person feel special, believed and heard.”

If you would like to support STARS, download the knitting pattern or crochet pattern and pick up your needles! Please email info@starsdorset.org or telephone 01202 308840 once your teddies are ready and we can advise you how to get them to us.

Below are some pictures of our ‘Adopted’ Bears and the travels they have been on.

We are also looking out for some special bears, we use these for some of our youngest children to explain to them what is going to happen. We have a Police Officer, a Judge and a Nurse.  If you’re able to knit us some special bears please get in touch.
